Moorcroft Pottery
Today, Moorcroft leads the world of art pottery with its own distinctive design style. It is selling more ware throughout the world than it did, even in its previous heydays of the mid 1920’s.
The studio was founded in 1897 with designs by William Moorcroft and was part of the James Macintyre & Co. ceramic company. Each piece carried William’s own signature or initials. In 1912 William opened his own factory in Sandbach Road where Moorcroft pottery is still made today.
Moorcroft was appointed potter to Her Majesty the Queen in 1928. William died in 1945 and his son Walter took over management and design. In 1993 Rachel Bishop joined the firm becoming only its fourth designer in nearly one hundred years.
Moorcroft enamels opened for a brief period 1998-2006, closing as a result of clashes in design style.
During the last few years, Moorcroft has grown internationally in quality and perceived value with many national museums holding significant pieces in their collections. Your opportunity to own quality pieces has arrived with a good entry from a private collector in Horners Gallery Auction on Saturday 18th June.
The auction will be held at Acle Gallery on Saturday June 18th commencing 10am.
