Horners the Auctioneers were instructed by a Norfolk family to offer by auction a pair of child figures by Pietro Barzanti of Florence. The figures deplicted a boy tearing a page from a school book, and a girl in a pensive pose, both standing on their original green marble columns. Signed by the sculptor they typify the skill and charm of the late nineteenth century Florentine work. There was international interest in the figures , but after intense bidding they were sold to a London buyer for £18,200 + premium.
